Over the last 3 years we have developed an adaptable vehicle platform able to support still/video, single/multi camera (including scanning/panoramic) together with a range of GPS/INS navigation options.

Imagery is cross referenced with position data from onboard GPS/INS so that all images can be geo-referenced with location and direction.

The system has the following benefits:

• Rapid image capture of road conditions, building facades, street scenes and furniture.
• As vehicle based can record images in areas where pedestrian access is not available or too dangerous such as red routes, bridges, viaducts.
• Frequency of capture can be varied allowing large numbers of images to be captured along a route.
• Very high productivity compared to on-foot photography as can cover large distances per day.
• Cameras are mounted 2m above the road, providing a semi panoramic view of the street scene from a road users perspective.
• Proven technology operationally tested over the last 2 years capturing over 17,000 street images across 2,500 London streets.
• Relatively unobtrusive to both other road users and pedestrians.
